Selten genug trifft man Leute wie Stefan Otto, einen der Gründer von Otto Gourmet. Wir hatten die Gelegenheit mit ihm über die Entwicklung des Unternehmens, die Hürden und die Erfolgsgeschichte zu sprechen.
Not very often you the chance to meet people like Stefan Otto, one of the founders of Otto Gourmet. We had the opportunity to talk with him about the development of the company, the hurdles and the success story.
Eine rasante Entwicklung
Seit der Gründung im Jahr 2005, als Stefan Otto und seine beiden Brüdern Michael und Wolfgang den Entschluss fasten Otto Gourmet zu gründen, hat sich das Heinsberger Unternehmen zum führenden deutschen Onlinehändler für exklusive Fleischspezialitäten entwickelt. Mittlerweile werden über 100 Mitarbeiter an mehreren Standorten beschäftigt.
A rapid development
Since the foundation in 2005 when Stefan Otto and his two brothers Michael and Wolfgang have decided to found Otto Gourmet, the Heinsberger company has become the leading German online retailer for exclusive meat specialties. Today more than 100 people work for the company at several locations.
Der Start war nicht reibungslos. Gehörte Otto Gourmet doch zu den Pionieren im Onlinehandel mit frischen Lebensmitteln. Einem Markt, der erst noch entwickelt werden musste und von dem keiner ahnte, wie groß die Resonanz sein würde. Eine besondere Herausforderung an die Gründer war die Logistik und die Einhaltung der Kühlkette. Gemeinsam mit Logistikpartner wurden teilweise komplett neue Verfahren entwickelt. Diese Erfahrungen zahlen sich noch heute aus.
The start was not smooth. Otto Gourmet was one of the pioneers in the online trade with fresh food. A market that had yet to be developed and no one knew how the resonance would be. A particular challenge to the founders was the logistics and compliance with the coolingchain. Together with logistics partners, some completely new processes had to be developed. These experiences are still paying off today.
Das Geheimnis des Erfolgs
Die bewusste Konzentration auf besonders edle und seltene Fleischsorten sprach sich schnell rum. Und auch die berühmtesten Sterneköche wurden aufmerksam. Bot sich ihnen jetzt doch eine gute Möglichkeit, neue Akzente zu setzen. Heute beliefert das Unternehmen neben vielen Spitzengastronomen auch anspruchsvolle Privatpersonen. Die jährlichen Wachstumsraten sind beeindruckend.
Die rasante Entwicklung erforderte Investitionen in allen Bereichen. Im Jahr 2010 stieg ein bekanntes Venture-Capital Unternehmen im Rahmen einer Minderheitsbeteiligung ein und stellte das notwendige Wachstumskapital bereit. Und für die Zukunft haben die drei Otto Brüder noch viel vor. Wir dürfen gespannt sein.

The offerings of Otto Gourmet opened great opportunities to them to set new accents. Today, the company supplies high-end private individuals as well as many top-class chefs. The annual growth rates are impressive. The rapid development required investments in all areas. In 2010, a well-known venture capital company entered a minority stake and provided the necessary growth capital.
And for the future, the three Otto brothers still have a lot in mind. We can be curious.
